Cemex Participates In New School Of Art In Houston’s Museum District

CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. (“CEMEX”) (NYSE: CX) announced that it supplied more than 16,000 cubic meters (approximately 21,000 cubic yards) of custom-made concrete for the Glassell School of Art, the teaching institute of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston in the USA.

Designed by Steven Holl Architects, the new Glassell School of Art extends over 8,500 square meters (approximately 93,000 square feet) and features an L-shaped design with various angles, depths, and exposed beams and surfaces that required several specialty concrete mixes.

Over the span of 2.5 years, CEMEX provided different tailor-made concrete mixes for this project, each requiring a different pour. Additionally, CEMEX supplied hand-mixed batches of white concrete, with every pour closely controlled by an on-site quality specialist.

“This project really showcases what concrete can do both structurally and architecturally,” said Alexis Evans, Market Development Manager of CEMEX USA’s Texas Region. “The service schedule was demanding and challenging, so it was very important for us to deliver exactly what the customer wanted, precisely when they needed it.”
